10.24 – Programmer’s Day

October 24th is a professional recognition day for developers in China, that has been established for many years. This date was chosen because it can also be written as 10.24, which is synonymous with the number of bytes, i.e. the foundation of all digital data, that form 1KB = 1024 bytes, 1MB= 1024 kilobytes, 1GB = 1024 megabytes, and so on. Additionally, 10.24 remains constant regardless of leap years.

Many of us perceive developers to be people who are reserved, quiet and usually just glued to their screens typing furiously, working on algorithms and code that not any Tom, Dick or Mary would be able to fathom. We usually just go about our lives blissfully tap-tap-tapping on our smart devices and apps happily, without much thought as to the amount of blood, sweat and tears that have been shed just to give us a seamless user experience.

NEWSFLASH: Developers are people just like you and me! They have real-world problems, gripes, opinions and frustrations just as we do. If you really sat down and thought about it, how many of us have actually taken a moment to consider this? That number would be significantly smaller simply because we usually take things for granted. Well.. Not anymore!

In commemoration of 10.24.19, our team decided to do a deep-dive into the minds of our developers and got them to share their thoughts and feelings about their profession with us. It took quite a bit of coaxing to pry them away from their screens to chat with us, but it was totally worth it! We got some really hilarious and quirky insights from our Devs and here are some reimagined Dev bios that we thought we’d share.

First up is Annie, our youngest rising talent:

Annie is the new kid on the block who sometimes feels chained (see what we did there?) to her role as a programmer in the App Testing team. Whilst her job is to quash bugs in code, what Annie truly misses is being bugged by boys so that she can finally update her relationship status. NOTE: To all the single boys out there, Annie only believes in breaking codes not hearts.

Next up is Victor, the cool cat:

Victor is our very own John Snow, brooding and ever-vigilant. Like his Game of Thrones counterpart, Victor pledged an oath to his craft “My watch shall not end even when I sleep. I shall play no sports, hold no gym membership and date only my laptop. I am the watcher of the platform. I am the shield that guards the realms of crypto trading. I pledge my life and free time to “Bybit’s Watch”, for this night and all the nights to come.” Erm… We think Victor needs to stop binge-watching and get out more.

Meet Arkin, our unyielding warrior:

Like a true Virgo, Arkin is our no-nonsense perfectionist who doesn’t like to settle for anything less than the best. Ark occasionally gets into battles with our UI/UX design team to ensure that the UI is top-notch. He may be a beast in the office, but a little birdy told us that he’s pretty much the opposite at home where his wife rules the roost.

Last but definitely not least, here’s Raul the confused lover-boy:

Raul has been caught in a love triangle ever since he met his wife. She has even made peace with being the side chick in their marriage because the laptop will always be the main chick. Whilst discussing what wedding cake to get, Raul went rambling on and on when she asked him to pick out their wedding cake, turns out, our dear Raul was talking about CakePHP!

We hope you guys had as much fun reading the developer bios as we had selecting them!

Here at Bybit, we recognise our developers as the heartbeat of our entire operation, working tirelessly round the clock; rain or shine, day or night, 24/7 – 365 to ensure that our platform, app and back-end systems run like clockwork so that our users get nothing less than the most seamless and efficient user experience when trading on the Bybit platform. We hope that all our users will join us in wishing our Devs a Happy Programmers’ Day.

If you would like to send out your well-wishes to our Devs, send us a tweet with the #HPDBybitDevs
